Pioneer Of Blakesburg Is Summoned

Mrs. Louesa Fritz Abernathy, 74 years old and widow of [[Moses Henry Abernathy|M. H. Abernathy]] and mother of [[Moses Walter Fritz Abernathy|Walter Abernathy]] of Ottumwa, died at her home and Blakesburg this morning, following an illness of six weeks. Mrs. Abernathy was a lifelong resident of Blakesburg.

She was born of Blakesburg on July 13, 1858, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. [[Benedict Fritz]]. Her marriage to M. H. Abernathy took place November 28, 1878. Of the four children born, two survive, Walter Abernathy of Ottumwa and [[Achsa A. Abernathy|Mrs. Ascha Abernathy Stutz]], wife of [[Edward D. Stutz|Edward Stutz]] of Blakesburg; one grandson, [[Carl Abernathy Gamble|Carl A. Gamble]] of Moline, Ill.; a sister [[Gertrude Cornelius Fritz|Mrs. William Shea]], and two brothers, [[Franklin Fritz|Frank]] and [[Henry F. Fritz|Henry Fritz]], all of Blakesburg.

Her daughter, [[Clara Christine Abernathy|Mrs. Clara Abernathy Gamble]], died
February 23, 1923, another daughter died in infancy, Mr. Abernathy died January 29, 1929, and two brothers, [[William B. Fritz|William]] and [[George W. Fritz|George Fritz]] and a sister [[Matilda Fritz|Mrs. Mathilda Hardie]] also preceded Mrs. Abernathy in death.

Funeral services will be held at the home in Blakesburg Monday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. Fred Tucker of Ottumwa. Burial will follow in the Blakesburg cemetery. The pallbearers will be [[John Benedict Shea|John Shea]], [[Edward Barnhart Fritz|Edward Fritz]], Bramford Abernathy, Herbert Arnold, Jake Huber and Everette Rowe.
