Pioneer Of Blakesburg Is Summoned
Mrs. Louesa Fritz Abernathy, 74 years old and widow of M. H. Abernathy and mother of Walter Abernathy of Ottumwa, died at her home and Blakesburg this morning, following an illness of six weeks. Mrs. Abernathy was a lifelong resident of Blakesburg.
She was born of Blakesburg on July 13, 1858, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Fritz. Her marriage to M. H. Abernathy took place November 28, 1878. Of the four children born, two survive, Walter Abernathy of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ascha Abernathy Stutz, wife of Edward Stutz of Blakesburg; one grandson, Carl A. Gamble of Moline, Ill.; a sister Mrs. William Shea, and two brothers, Frank and Henry Fritz, all of Blakesburg.
Her daughter, Mrs. Clara Abernathy Gamble, died February 23, 1923, another daughter died in infancy, Mr. Abernathy died January 29, 1929, and two brothers, William and George Fritz and a sister Mrs. Mathilda Hardie also preceded Mrs. Abernathy in death.
Funeral services will be held at the home in Blakesburg Monday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. Fred Tucker of Ottumwa. Burial will follow in the Blakesburg cemetery. The pallbearers will be John Shea, Edward Fritz, Bramford Abernathy, Herbert Arnold, Jake Huber and Everette Rowe.
