FRANK W. BEEBE, WIOTA

[[Franklin Willis Beebe|Frank W. Beebe]], postmaster at Wiota, this country, is one of the widely known and esteemed officials in this part of the State, nearly two-thirds of his life having been passed among its people, and in variously ministering to their welfare. He is a native of Lake county, Ohio, where he was born on March 22, 1857. His parents, [[Lewis C. Beebe|Lewis C.]] and [[Elizabeth E. Spencer|Elizabeth (Spencer) Beebe]]—the former a native of the State of New York and the latter of Ohio—were people of earnest industry and comfortable prosperity. The mother died when her son Frank was a child, and the father is still living in Ohio, where he located in his early manhood. He is a carpenter and a master of his craft. The paternal grandfather was [[John Beebe]], a native of Maine who passed the greater part of his life in Ohio, where he died.

Frank W. Beebe remained at home until he reached the age of thirteen, then started out to make his own way in the world, coming to this State for the purpose and located in Warren county, where he worked on farms until 1888. In that year he came to Cass county, taking up residence first near Anita on a farm upon which he lived and worked for six years, and three years near Wiota. He then moved to Wiota, which has since been his home. He was appointed postmaster of Wiota in July, 1897, and has help the position continuously since that date. He also carried on a flourishing real estate and insurance business.

From his youth Mr. Beebe's progress in life has been steady and has been the result of his own efforts and capacities, and every foot of ground he has gained he has resolutely held. Without the favors of fortune or adventitious circumstances of any kind, he has made his own way forward and upward, and he is highly esteemed for the sterling manhood he has ever shown. He has been a Republican from the dawn of his manhood, and has ever been a wheelhorse in the service of his party. Mr. Beebe was elected a member of the school board in 1906. Fraternally, he is identified with Masonry and the Order of Elks. In February, 1881, he was married, in this State, to [[Rebecca Alice Fritz|Rebecca A. Fritz]], a native of Iowa. They have four children, [[Ellen Elizabeth Beebe |Ella E.]], [[Albert Jay Beebe|Albert J.]], [[William Sherman Beebe|William S.]], and [[Carlton F. Beebe|Carlton]].

Mrs. Birdie Fritz.

One of the saddest deaths which has occurred in this city recently was that of Mrs. Bird Fritz yesterday afternoon. She passed away in the prime of life when, if ever, existence is cherished and there is much to live for. Tuberculosis which caused her death fastened its hold upon her a year ago and for many months she has lived the life of an invalid at her cozy cottage home on North Eighteenth Street. During all this time much of which was spent in suffering she has shown a Christian-like spirit of patience and a gentle disposition has always predominated in her daily life. A consistent member of the M. E. church, a favorite with a large circle of friends, her loss will be deeply felt in the community. Mrs. Fritz was the daughter of [[Dora Lane|Mrs. Dora Fowler]], of this city. She was born here April 5, 1872. Her girlhood days were spent here but she finished school at Blakesburg, having made her home in the latter city for a year with her grandmother while attending school. She was married
to [[George W. Fritz|G. W. Fritz]] in Ottumwa, June 12, 1891 and removed with her husband to Tacoma, Wash., where Mr. Fritz engaged in the lumber business. His failing health compelled their return to Iowa and they settled at Blakesburg where Mr. Fritz died two years ago. Mrs. Fritz and her two children then came to this city to live. At various times Mrs. Fritz has held the position of saleswoman in the store of her uncle, [[Clark White Lane|C. W. Lane]], where she was popular with the people with whom she came in contact.

Mrs. Fritz' nearest relatives here are her mother and her only sister, [[Fay E. Fowler|Mrs. O. M. Cole]]. She leaves two little children, [[Hazel L. Fritz|Hazel]], a daughter, 7 years old and [[Howard Clell Fritz|Clell]], a son, aged 5.

One beautiful feature of her invalidism was her surroundings which were made it as pleasant as possible. Friends were very thoughtful in sending flowers, of which there was always a profusion in her home which Mrs. Fritz was very grateful for their cheering presence.

The funeral will be held from the home on North Eighth street tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks, of the First M. E. church. Interment will be made in Oakland cemetery. The casket will be open tomorrow forernoon, only, in order that friends may call to view the remains.
