Obituary
The following death notice appeared in the Earlham paper, the Earlham Echo, in its 16 April 1953 edition.
Edith E. Schlarb, the daughter of Henry and Lena Schlarb was born in Earlham, on July 9th, 1890 and departed this life at Des Moines, on Thursday evening, April 9th, 1953 at the age of 62 years and nine months.
On March 24th, 1915 she was united in marriage, in Madison county to Perle J. Wetrich.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Wetrich resided on a farm near Earlham for four years, coming to Collins in 1919 where they have since resided and where Mr. Wetrich conducted a grocery business for 32 years.
Mrs. Wetrich united with the Penn Center Methodist church in early girlhood, and when the Wetrichs came to Collins identified themselves with the Collins Methodist church.
Mrs. Wetrich was also a member of the Collins Rebekah Lodge No. 159 of Collins at the time of her death. She was an invalid for several years, becoming progressively worse in the last months. She was a quiet, pleasant, if somewhat retiring person, who will be missed by those who knew and neighbored with her.
Besides the stricken husband, there survives her passing a brother, Clarence G. Schlarb, of Ames, Iowa, a half-brother, Joe Schlarb of California, and a step-mother, Mrs. Daisy Schlarb, also of California. Also an uncle, Frank Fritz, in whose home she lived since early girlhood, due to the death of her mother, until her marriage. Also surviving is an aunt, Mrs. Kate Rausenberger of Ackley, Iowa, a number of nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Collins Methodist church on Monday afternoon, April 13th, 1953 at 1:00 p.m. by the Reverend Louis H. Joslin. Interment was made in the Penn Center cemetery in Madison county, Iowa.
