Franz researched and compiled genealogical information on the Fritz family in Austria, and later the Fritz family of the United States. His son, Bruno Fritz, has continued to maintain Fritz genealogy information.

In 1967, Franz made his first trip to the United States. He searched in Virginia, but failed to locate Fritz relatives there.

In 1968, Franz and his daughter, Margit, traveled to Blakesburg. Here, they met Caroline Fritz Couch, Gertrude Fritz Brinton an her husband Kenneth, and Edward Fritz and his wife Marjorie Miller Fritz. Perhaps as a result of this visit, Edward wrote many letters to Frankz.
