Obituary

Clarence E. Fritz
Funeral In California

Clarence E. Fritz, son of W. B. and Emma Fritz was born on a farm near Dexter, Iowa, on November 14, 1902. It was there that he spent his boyhood days, attended Penn No. 3 school and later graduated from the Dexter high school. He was engaged in farming with his father for one year. In 1923 he and a friend took a vacation trip to California and it was then that he decided to make his future home in the west. He returned to Iowa in 1924 and helped his father another year.

On September 22, 1926, he was united in marriage with Nellie M. Schalkle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Schalkle of Earlham, Iowa. One week later they left Iowa to make their home in California.

In 1927 he started working for the Shell Oil Company and was still employed there at the time of his death. While on a hunting trip near Fillmore, Utah, he suffered a heart attack and death came instantly on October 20, 1946 at the age of 43 years, 11 months and 6 days.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 25 at the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn Memorial Park and interment was made there.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie M. Fritz of Pasadena, Calif., his father, W. B. Fritz of Dexter, Iowa, a brother, W. A. Fritz, of Adel, Iowa, and three sisters: his twin, Mrs. Caroline E. Couch of Dexter, Iowa, Mrs. F. M. Dennis of Boone, Iowa, and Gertrude A. Fritz of Dexter, Iowa. Surviving also are three nephews and three nieces. He was preceeded[sic] in death by his mother and an infant brother.

Early in his youth he became a member of the Dexter Methodist church and after moving to California his membership was transferred to the First Methodist church of Pasadena where he was a faithful member.

Those who attended the funeral from Iowa were Mr. W. A. Fritz of Adel, Gertrude A. Fritz of Dexter, Mr. A. B. Schalkle of Earlham and Mr. Earl Schalkle of Earlham.
